SITKA, February 2, 2021 – On February 15, the Affordable Care Act Health Insurance Marketplace will offer an additional Open Enrollment period for patients needing 2021 health coverage. President Joe Biden re-opened the Marketplace by Executive Order on Thursday, January 28, in an effort to reduce the loss of coverage due to the effects of the pandemic. Patients will be able to sign up for coverage on healthcare.gov through May 15.
"The ongoing pandemic has had devastating financial effects on our local economy and many patients have lost insurance coverage,” said Susan Briles, SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Patient Health Benefits Supervisor. “This special enrollment period will allow individuals and families to enroll in health insurance during these chaotic times. Our highly trained staff is here to support and navigate the enrollment process."
The SEARHC Patient Health Benefits team is available to assist anyone wanting to enroll during the three-month window. SEARHC is a Certified Application Counselor agency and offers free assistance to all Southeast residents by appointment. Those requiring assistance should contact the Patient Health Benefits team at outreach@searhc.org or by calling 907.966.8684.
