On 09/05/2020 at about 2250 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a Domestic Disturbance at a residence on Bearberry Lane. Investigation revealed that Shawn Kilbury, age 48 of Ketchikan physically assaulted a family member. Kilbury was arrested for Assault in the 4th Degree DV and remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center with No Bail. AST would like to thank the US Forest Service LEO for their assistance with the investigation.

On 09/09/2020 at about 2213 hours, the Alaska State Troopers contacted and arrested William Weir, age 44 of Ketchikan at a residence in the 1200 Block of Water Street. Weir had an outstanding warrant for VCOR stemming from the original charge of Assault in the 3rd Degree DV. Weir was transported and remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center with bail set at $1,000.

On 9/9/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted Theodore Freeman, age 56 of Washington State, sport fishing for salmon in the Harris river. Investigation revealed that Freeman was not in possession of a valid Alaska sport fish license. Freeman was issued a minor offense citation for the violation.

On 9/9/2020, Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Ketchikan issued a citation to Bryan Helmick, 42 of CA, for retaining a non-pelagic rockfish while sport fishing. The violation carries a set $140 fine.

On 9/11/20 at 0829 hours, AST received a 911 report of a two vehicle collision at mile 7.5 of Thorne Bay Rd. Preliminary investigation has revealed Jennifer Dietrick (35, Naukati) was driving a 2001 Toyota when she crossed the double yellow line causing a head on collision with a 2010 Chevy Tahoe driven by Kerri Hansen (33, Thorne Bay). Both Dietrick and Hansen were pronounced deceased on scene. Dietrick had a young child in her vehicle and Hansen had three children in her vehicle. All children were transported from the scene, with reportedly serious injuries, to receive medical treatment. None of the children were in restraints when the wreck occurred. Investigation is ongoing. Next of kin notifications for the decedents has been made. Investigation is ongoing.

On 9/6/2020 at approximately 1435 hours, Aniak AST Troopers received a call from a Knik Construction Employee reporting that during excavations for the new electric lines at the Aniak Airport, what appeared to be a human jaw bone was unearthed. Aniak AST responded to the location and confirmed the remains were in fact a human. Upon further investigation, more bones were located. The state medical examiner’s office was contacted about the incident. At this time, it is believed to be possibly an old burial site. The remains were collected, photographs taken and the remains are being sent to the SME in Anchorage for examination. Investigation is ongoing.
