Has Been Cancelled: First Time Ever!
The Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council has been producing the Blueberry Arts Festival for 44 consecutive years and never before have we considered canceling. The decision about what to do this year was no small task, so we reached out to our registered Booth Holders to ask their opinion. We recognize the ramifications that canceling the Blueberry Arts Festival could cause; it is an enormous economic driver not only for Booth Holders but also for local businesses, hotels, and restaurants. We also recognize the value of making a timely decision. Based on the feedback we have received from our Booth Holders, and the recent exposure to our community of the COVID-19 virus, we have decided to cancel the Blueberry Arts Festival for the first time EVER!!! We are aware of the impact of this decision, but the health and safety of our community must come first.
However, we will continue to move forward with the open call Blueberry Arts Festival Art Exhibit at the Main Street Gallery because we can control the number of patrons visiting the Gallery, physical distancing requirements, and the use of face coverings.
The opening reception for the exhibit will be on July 31st with extended hours from 2:00 - 7:00 pm and will follow our new safety protocols for the Main Street Gallery. In addition to the in-person exhibit, each work of art will be exhibited and available for purchase from our Online Gallery on our website. If you are interested in participating in this exhibit you can find the Art Submission Form on our website, artwork must be dropped off at the Main Street Gallery by 5:00 pm, July 24Th. We will also continue with the “Online Mug Shot Beard and Mustache Contest”, prizes will be awarded for the "Wild Man", "Most Artistic", and "People's Choice". The deadline to email those images is July 24, 2020. We will post the winners on our website on August 3rd for all to see.
Don’t forget! We are selling 45Th Annual Blueberry Arts Festival logo T-shirts, stickers, and (NEW this year!) face coverings. T-shirts are available for members to pre-order until June 30Th. All Blueberry Arts Festival BLING will be available to the public for purchase on July 1st.
Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this unprecedented time. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns! We will see you next year for the 45Th Annual Blueberry Arts Festival Part-Deux!!!
Sincerely,
Kathleen Light
