Location: Prince of Wales Island

Type: Escape Mechanism Violation

On 3/12/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island located and seized three personal use dungeness crab pots in the Klawock Inlet that did not have the required biodegradable escape mechanism. Investigation showed that the pots were being fished by Thomas Barlow, age 16 of Klawock. Barlow was later located and cited for the violation, and the pots were returned.

On 3/12/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island located and seized a personal use dungeness crab pot in the Klawock Inlet that did not have the required biodegradable escape mechanism. Investigation showed that the pot was being fished by Stephen Brown, age 51 of Klawock. Brown was later located and cited for the violation, and the pot was returned.

On 3/12/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island located and seized a personal use dungeness crab pot in the Klawock Inlet that did not have the required biodegradable escape mechanism. Investigation showed that the pot was being fished by James Tipton Jr, age 32 of Craig. Tipton was later located and cited for the violation, and the pot was returned.

Type: Retain undersize Dungeness Crab

On 3-15-2020 the Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Amos Hudson (37) of Ketchikan for retaining 13 undersize Dungeness Crab while personal use fishing in the marine waters near Ketchikan. This violation has a set fine of $100 plus $20 per crab for a total of $360 and a $20 court surcharge. It does not require an appearance in the First Judicial District Court in Ketchikan.

Type: False Statement on Application for Sport Fish License

On 3/17/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted and cited Rusty Merrill, age 43 of Klawock, for one count of False Statement on an Application for a Sport Fish License. Investigation revealed that Merrill had purchased a 2019 Alaska resident annual sport fish license claiming one year of residency, when in fact, he did not meet Alaska's residency requirements.
