From the Ketchikan Fire Department (all photos courtesy of the KFD)
At approximately 12:40AM on Tuesday December 17th, the Ketchikan Fire Department along with North Tongass Vol. Fire Dept and South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of smoke in a house located in the 3000 block of Alaska St. The occupants and their pets had already safely evacuated the home upon the fire department's arrival. Upon investigation, a fire was located in the wall in the vicinity of the fire place. The fire was quickly extinguished with no reported injuries to the occupants or first responders.
The Fire Department would like to remind everyone to test your smoke detectors and to practice your home escape plan regularly and to always evacuate as quickly as possible in the event of a fire.
PS. Glad everyone is safe!
