From THRHA:
Juneau, Alaska—The Board of Commissioners (BOC) of the Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority (THRHA) has appointed Jacqueline “Jackie” Pata to the position of President & Chief Executive Officer.
“We are pleased to announce that Jackie Pata will take the helm at the Housing Authority,” said THRHA Board of Commissioners Chairman Roy Aceveda. “We look forward to Ms. Pata’s leadership as we work to strengthen our relationships with tribal partners and the communities we serve through our new strategic priorities.”
Some of these priorities which were recently released in THRHA’s three-year strategic plan include diversifying income streams and improving cost management; providing growth opportunities for employees and customers; and collaborating with tribal partners to develop Indian housing plans for each community.
“Jackie is a recognized and well-respected leader across Alaska and throughout Indian Country,” continued Chairman Aceveda. “Her previous experience in housing and passion for service to Southeast communities will be a real asset to the Housing Authority.”
Prior to her appointment at THRHA, Ms. Pata led since 2001, the National Congress of American Indians in Washington, DC as its Executive Director. Prior to that, she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Native American Programs for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development where she was responsible for the implementation of the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act (NAHASDA). Previously from 1989 to 1998, Ms. Pata was the Executive Director of THRHA and served as Chairwoman of the Native American Indian Housing Council where she led the charge to reform the Indian housing program. Prior to her appointment as President & CEO, Ms. Pata also served as Ex-Officio on the BOC for THRHA.
Additionally, Ms. Pata is the 2nd Vice President for the Central Council of the Tlingit Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska and serves on a variety of national executive boards, including as a Vice President for the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Board Member for the George Gustave Heye Center of the National Museum of the American Indian, and she has been a Board Member at Sealaska Corporation since 1999.
Ms. Pata succeeds Joyce Niven, who has been serving as Interim President & CEO for the past year while the BOC conducted a search for a new CEO. “I am humbled and honored to have been able serve the Housing Authority as the Interim President & CEO,” said Niven. “I look forward in assisting our new CEO as we work to improve housing opportunities for our tribal partners and clients.” Niven will resume her role as Vice President of Administration.
