On April 29, 2018 at about 9:00PM, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island received a report of gunshots being fired inside a residence in Thorne Bay. Investigation revealed 74 year old Thorne Bay resident Mike Steele assaulted two household members and was discharging a firearm inside the residence. On April 30, 2018 at about 9:45AM, Mike was arrested and transported to Craig Police Department where he was held without bail. Mike was charged with two counts of Assault III, one count of Assault IV, and one count of Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV. No one was harmed during the incident and alcohol was a factor.

On May 1, 2018 the Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Matthew Kurtz (48) of Bristish Columbia, Canada for failing to submit his completed commercial geoduck logbook to the Department of Fish and Game with seven days of landing commercially taken geoducks. This is a strict-liability commercial fishing offense that requires a mandatory court appearance in the Ketchikan District Court.

On May 1, 2018 the Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited John Malouf (49) of Ketchikan for operating a personal use Dungeness crab pot without a bio-degradable escape mechanism. This is a violation with a set fine of $100 in the First Judicial District Court in Craig.

On 5/2/2018, Prince of Wales State Troopers responded to Hydaburg for a reported disturbance. Investigation revealed Gwendolyn Peratrovich assaulted a family member during an argument. Gwendolyn was arrested for Assault IV Domestic Violence, and remanded to the Craig Jail pending arraignment. Alcohol was a factor in this incident.
