Fisherman's Memorial Stone Installed at Cannery Point in Craig, Alaska

From the City of Craig:

City staff has installed a fisherman’s memorial stone at Cannery Point, near the web loft building. The polished and etched memorial stone joins the seawall and landscaping improvements that were added to the site several years ago. The stone is cut from a large piece of Stone Arts of Alaska’s Aphrodite marble, originating here on Prince of Wales Island.

Funding for the project is provided through a generous grant from Mr. Barron Hilton, who for many years visited Craig aboard the yacht Silverado.

The Craig city council several years ago designated a portion of the Cannery Point site as a park area, prompting installation of the recreational upgrades and the placement of the memorial stone. Thanks are due to former Craig Harbormaster Michael Kampnich and Cheryl Fecko for the time they have volunteered for this project. The City welcomes public input on future improvements to the site.
