Location: Hydaburg

Type: DV Assault 4/Criminal Mischief 5

On 10/22/2022 at 0445 hours, Prince of Wales Troopers responded to Hydaburg for a reported assault. Investigation resulted in the arrest of 27-year-old Tabatha Villines of Hot Springs Arkansas after it was determined she had assaulted a household member. Villines was additionally charged with Criminal Mischief after it was also determined her actions during the assault damaged the property of the same household member. Villines was remanded to the Craig Jail for Assault IV and Criminal Mischief V.

Type: Fire

On 10/20/2022 at approximately 0332 hours, Alaska State Trooper Dispatch informed Thorne Bay EMS/Fire that they received a report of a fire in the community. Two Village Public Safety Officers and elements of the Thorne Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded. The fire originated in a bus converted to contain storage. Contents of the bus included 720-1200 fire logs, which are created by drying and compressing sawdust into a rectangular log. The fire threatened a camper trailer which was located within 2 feet of the burning bus and where the owners lived. After approximately 4 hours, the fire was contained and extinguished with minimal damage to the surrounding structures. Three minor injuries were reported, all from first responders, who were released on scene.

Type: Disorderly Conduct

On 10/15/2022 at 1532 hours, Seward AST received a report of a female rolling around in the roadway in the middle of a construction zone. The female was contacted a short time later and was still seated in the roadway. The female was highly intoxicated, refused to identify herself, and refused to speak besides occasional profanities. The female was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and later identified as Laney M. Sheldon, 20 YOA of Noorvik, by Alaska ID card. Sheldon was transported to the hospital for medical clearance due to her high level of intoxication. While at the hospital Sheldon attempted to kick several staff members and law enforcement. The hospital elected to hold Sheldon for monitoring due to her high blood alcohol content. Sheldon was issued misdemeanor citations for disorderly conduct and released to the supervision of the hospital.

Type: Wanted Person

UPDATE: October 17, 2022, Alaska State Troopers are continuing the search for Ronald Dean Beyering using air and ground assets. His location is still unknown at this time. Beyering may be driving a maroon 2008 Ford expedition with Alaska license plate FLV-670. AST is continuing to request public assistance in locating Beyering. Anyone that sees Beyering should not approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous but should immediately call Soldotna Dispatch Center at (907) 262-4453 or 911.

On October 15, 2022, at 11:58 pm, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a residence on Lourdes Avenue off Funny River Road in Soldotna fully ingulfed in flames. The occupants were able to escape the residence. Ronald Dean Beyering, age 62 of Soldotna, was seen leaving the property of the residence. Alaska State Troopers were granted an arrest warrant for Beyering and are actively searching for him and asking the public for assistance in locating him. Anyone that sees Beyering should not approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous but should immediately call Soldotna Dispatch Center at (907) 262-4453 or 911.


Location: Cordova, AK

Type: Search and Rescue/Recovery

On 10/16/22 AWT Cordova was notified that a Search and Rescue had been initiated by Juneau Flight Service Station after contact was lost with an aircraft on a flight plan from Yakutat, AK. to Birchwood, AK. The Friendship Air aircraft lost contact with Flight Service near Cordova Mudhole Smith Airport on the southwest side of the Heney Range outside of Cordova, AK. The aircraft was located on the Heney Ridge in steep terrain by a USCG Helicopter on the evening of 10/16/22. There were no signs of life observed at the crash site. Weather conditions prevented the rescue team from reaching the wreckage. On 10/17/22 a Helicopter search team dispatched by the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center reached the wreckage and confirmed the single occupant had not survive the crash. Conditions hampered recovery of the remains. On 10/18/22 a Helicopter search team dispatched by the Army National Guard reached the site and recovered the remains. The remains were flown to Cordova and will be transported to the State Medical Examiners. Next of kin were notified of the recovery.

Type: Wildlife Violation

On October 23rd at approximately 1630 hours, Jacob Marshall, age 27, of Wrangell, was issued a summons for placing human food and garbage in a manner to intentionally attract big game for harvest. This offense requires a mandatory court appearance. Arraignment is scheduled for November 2nd at 1000 hours and will be held at the Wrangell Courthouse


Location: Bethel

Type: Fire Fatality

On October 24, 2022, at 11:04 pm, Alaska State Troopers were notified of a house fire in the village of Oscarville.  It was reported that two juvenile’s we seriously injured in the fire.  Oscarville does not have airplane access and the two children were transported via boat to Bethel.  One of the juvenile’s succumbed to injuries sustained in the fire, the second juvenile was sent by MedEvac to an Anchorage area hospital for treatment.  The investigation into the cause of the fire was conducted by Alaska State Troopers and the findings were reviewed by the Alaska State Fire Marshal’s Office.  The cause of the fire is believed to be electrically caused and non-criminal.
