On January 8, 2020, Alaska State Troopers (AST) received a report that 53-year-old Rodney Krauss of Ketchikan had violated his court ordered conditions of release. AST contacted Kraus on a traffic stop. Subsequent investigation revealed Kraus had direct contact with a family member in violation of his court ordered conditions of release . Kraus was taken into custody and transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center. Kraus was held without bail, pending arraignment for the misdemeanor offense of violating conditions of release.

On 01/08/2020 at about 2108 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately) report on a green Subaru which was traveling northbound on North Tongass Highway and was last seen pulling into a gas station at mile of 11 of the North Tongass Highway. AST responded and located the vehicle. Investigation revealed that the driver Don Wright, age 49 of Ketchikan was violating current conditions of release set by the Ketchikan Courthouse from the original charge of DUI by operating a vehicle without required liability insurance and being in possession of drug paraphernalia. Wright was remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center for VCOR x2 and Driving with No Liability Insurance. Bail set at $500.00. AST would like to thank the concerned citizen who reported the vehicle driving recklessly. SDEU and K-9 Misty assisted at the scene.

On 1/11/2020, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers issued a citation to Shad McConnell (50 of Ketchikan) for failing to have biodegradable cotton twine on personal use Dungeness crab gear. This is offense has a set fine of $120 and does not require an appearance in the First Judicial Court in Ketchikan.

On 1/5/20 at approximately 1225 hours, Sitka Mountain Rescue contacted Juneau Alaska State Troopers reporting an overdue boater. Kale Pastel, age 36 of Sitka, had taken a kayak from Eliason Harbor at approximately 0500 hours and was paddling towards Birds Nest Bay. United States Coast Guard had deployed a helicopter equipped with a FLIR device and SMR deployed three boats to assist in the search. AST later received report that a kayak similar to the one Pastel was reported to have was found capsized in the Eastern Channel. The kayak was towed to shore. USCG and SMR continued their search of the area till 1/6/20 at approximately 1525 hours, when all search efforts were suspended. Next of kin had been notified of the situation. Anyone having contact or information regarding Pastel is asked to contact Alaska State Troopers in Juneau at 907-465-4000.
