For those that may not be aware, Prince of Wales has not had a true recycling program on the island for a long time. The cans and bottles that are collected go straight to the dump. They aren't sent off anywhere to be melted and recycled. With this knowledge in mind Richard Trojan is testing a true recycling program and will send off a full container off-island once it is full.
He writes:
We are loading a container and will be receiving properly packaged and prepared cans at the car wash in Craig. Please read and follow the directions so we can ensure this will work successfully:
- Cans must be well drained or even rinsed.
- Crushed as much as possible.
- Separate other aluminum foil products from cans.
- They go to different places.
- NO TRASH.
- Cans must be in heavy duty, large plastic bags.
- Metal cans are accepted if they are washed and flattened--also in bags.
To keep trash out of this operation we ask the following; please leave your bags loosely tied so they can be checked for trash and we will be at the car wash container during the City dump hours (for your convenience) from 10am-3:30pm January 6th, 8th, 10th and 11th.
No cardboard boxes, accepted and we will have large bags available onsite for your use just in case.
This service can be terminated if abused. Your trash will be rejected.
Please help make this work and let's give our island a little love
Rich Trojan
