Location: Prince of Wales Island

Type: Taking game closed season, Unlawful methods of taking game, Driving on a suspended license, Hunting w/o a license and Hunting w/o Harvest tags

On 10/15/19, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island received a report that Michael Howard, age 33 of Klawock, had shot a deer inside the city limits of Klawock. AWT responded and the investigation showed that Howard had been driving through the Mary Jackson Subdivision in Klawock when he observed a doe on the side of the road. Howard drove up alongside the doe and shot it in the head with a .177 pellet gun. Howard then fled the scene and hid the pellet gun before later returning in a separate vehicle to attempt to load the deer and take it from the scene. Howard was ultimately charged with several counts, including; Taking game closed season, Unlawful methods of taking game, Driving on a suspended license, Hunting w/o a license and Hunting w/o Harvest tags.

On 10/27/2019, Nathan Ray Garrison, 35 of Ketchikan, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, for hunting without a 2019 hunting license in possession. Garrison was cited after he was contacted while hunting near Shelter Cove without a 2019 hunting license in possession. Bail is set at $270 in the Ketchikan district Court

On 10/27/2019, Jennifer L Walton, 38 of Ketchikan, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, for hunting without a 2019 hunting license in possession. Walton was cited after she was contacted while hunting near Shelter Cove without a 2019 hunting license in possession. Bail is set at $270 in the Ketchikan district Court.

On 10/27/2019, Alaska Wildlife Troopers Ketchikan Post cited Dennis K Moody,(56 ) and Bryan D Moody (27) both of Ketchikan, for sport fishing without a valid license in their possession. Dennis Moody and Bryan Moody were cited after they were contacted while fishing on Leask Creek without a 2019 sport fishing license in possession. Bail is set at $220 each in the Ketchikan Court.

On 10/30/2019 at about 2134 hours, the Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a white Ford Pick-up at mile 7 of the North Tongass Highway for a moving violation. Investigation revealed that the driver Kurt Key, age 59 of Ketchikan was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Key was arrested for DUI and remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center. Key was also issued a traffic citation for Failure to Show Proof of Insurance.

On 10/30/2019 at about 1634 hours, the Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a green Chevrolet Pick-Up truck in the 2400 Block of Tongass Avenue for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed that the passenger Shawn McCray, age 37 of Ketchikan was violating current conditions of release set by the Ketchikan Courthouse by consuming alcohol. The original charges stem from Assault in the 4th Degree DV and VCOR. McCray was arrested and remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center with No Bail.

On 10/31/2019 at about 1814 hours, the Alaska State Troopers contacted and arrested Cody Mathwig, age 31 of Ketchikan in the 500 Block of Water Street. Mathwig had two outstanding warrants issued reference FTC from the original charge of Theft in the 4th Degree. Mathwig was remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center with No bail.

On 10/31/2019 at about 2124 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a fight in progress near the intersection of Sea Level Drive and Tongass Avenue. Investigation revealed that James Jaime, age 28 of California was intoxicated by alcohol and had assaulted two people at the scene. Jaime was arrested for two counts of Assault in the 4th Degree and remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center with No Bail.

On 10/22/19, Prince of Wales AWT issued Ryan Asa, 33 of Cordova, a citation for not having his personal use gear marked with the required information. Asa was cited after AWT inspected his personal use shrimp pots that had no buoy markings. He has an optional appearance in the Prince of Wales District with bail set at $120.

On November 2, 2019, at about 3:15PM, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island responded to Thorne Bay after receiving a report of an assault. Investigation revealed 30 year old Jacob Edenfield assaulted a household member and damaged their property. Jacob was arrested for Assault IV DV and Criminal Mischief IV DV. Jacob was transported to the Craig Jail where he was remanded without bail.

On 10/29/2019, at approximately 1530 hours, Investigators with the Alaska State Troopers' Anchorage Airport Interdiction Team (AAIT) contacted Quincy Iyatunguk, age 28, of Nome at the Anchorage International Airport prior to boarding a flight to Nome. As a result of the contact, investigators seized 8.8 grams of heroin (88 individual user doses) which had been concealed internally. The contact was a result of ongoing investigations into the trafficking and distribution of narcotics in the Nome region by the Nome Office of the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team (WAANT). Iyatunguk was arrested and charged with Misconduct Involving Controlled Substances in the Second Degree. He was remanded without bail into the Anchorage Correctional Complex.

Heroin is sold in Nome for approximately $120.00 for one user dose (one tenth of a gram) making the approximate street value of one gram $1,200.00. Subsequently, the total approximate street value of the heroin seized is $10,560.

The Anchorage Airport Interdiction Team is an AST-led drug interdiction task-force staffed by Investigators and Agents from AST, Anchorage Police, the North Slope Borough Police Department, the Anchorage Airport Police Department, the Sand Point Police Department, the US Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
