On 1-13-19 at approximately 0901 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Ketchikan were notified of a theft. Investigation revealed that between 1-11-19 and 1-13-19 a red, Honda 2000 generator was taken from outside a residence on Knudson Cove Road. Estimated value is $1000. On 1-13-19 at approximately 1129 hours, the Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers and the North Tongass Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision near mile 13 of the North Tongass Highway. Investigation revealed that Debra Matthews, age 62 of Ketchikan, was operating a 2010 Toyota Tundra pickup headed northbound on the N. Tongass Highway. Matthews reported that a deer ran into the roadway and she abruptly veered off the road and into the ditch, striking a tree, to avoid hitting the animal. Seatbelts were worn and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was totaled. Speed and alcohol were not a factor.

On 1-11-2019 the Alaska Wildlife Troopers arrested Murphy Charles (37) of Ketchikan on an arrest warrant for failing to comply with the conditions of his probation. Charles was transported to KCC in Ketchikan and held on a $500 bail.

On 01/19/2019 at about 0210 hours, the Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a red Subaru at mile 5 of the North Tongass Highway. The vehicle was stopped for speeding. Investigation revealed that the driver Jana Jensen, age 22 of Ketchikan was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Jensen was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center. Jensen was also issued traffic citations for Speeding and Failure to Show Proof of Insurance.

On 01/17/2019 at about 1547 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a theft from a vehicle parked in the neighborhood of Old Homestead off the South Tongass Highway. Investigation revealed that sometime between 01/15/2019 to 01/17/2019 an unknown person(s) broke the rear window out of a vehicle and stole a speaker box and amp from the vehicle. The estimated total loss of stolen property is $1400.00. The estimated total damages to the vehicle is $350.00. Anyone with information pertaining to this case or any criminal activity is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers at 225-5118. Callers can remain anonymous.
