UPDATE: Ketchikan Airport Ferry Ramp FIXED!

Ketchikan Gateway Borough Reports: Repairs are complete, the airport ferry has resumed normal operation with vehicle and passenger traffic. Thank you for your patience.

What happened:

It is expected that vehicular traffic will not resume to the Ketchikan International Airport for at least two more days. At approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday, the ram that lifts the airport ferry ramp failed, trapping the Ken Eichner II ferry on the Gravina Island side. All passengers were able to exit the ferry.

Walk-on passengers are currently being transported to Gravina Island via the Airport Ferry Oral Freeman. The ferry is utilizing the seaplane dock at the airport to offload walk-on passengers.
Borough staff is working with contractors in an attempt to fix the airport ferry ramp on the Gravina Island side as quickly as possible. Repairs are expected to take at least an additional two more days.

The ferry system is maintaining its schedule, leaving Gravina Island on the hour and half hour and leaving Revillagigedo on the quarter hour. Passengers with mobility issues should contact the Borough Transit Department at 225-8726 to discuss transportation options to the airport.

The Ketchikan Gateway Borough will provide updates as they become available. Updates will continue to be posted on the Borough website, Facebook and Nixle. To sign up for Nixle, text 99901 to 888777 or register at: www.nixle.com.
