On 6/24/2017, Prince of Wales based Troopers received a report of a burglary on Wadleigh Island. Investigation revealed approximately $5000 worth of generators, chainsaws and other equipment was stolen from a residence owned by 73 year old Norman Bringle. Multiple items were recovered by Troopers and at least one suspect has been identified. Charges of Burglary and Theft II are forthcoming. Troopers are still trying to locate a 10 cubic foot propane refrigerator that was stolen at the same time. Anyone who has purchased a similar refrigerator recently second-hand on POW Island is requested to call AST at 826-2918.

On 6/26/2017, Prince of Wales based Troopers took possession of a .243 Remington rifle from a concerned citizen in Craig. The citizen reported he had recently purchased the firearm from a third party and believed it may be stolen. Investigation revealed the firearm was stolen from Wadleigh Island earlier this year. A suspect has been identified and the investigation is ongoing. Individuals who have purchased, or intend to purchase firearms from private sellers, can have the firearm checked by AST to verify that its not stolen. On 06-29-17 at approximately 1624 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales were advised Harvey Hurd, age 77 of Coffman Cove, was found deceased in his home from natural causes. No foul play is suspected. Next of Kin has been notified. Hurd’s remains were transported to the Ketchikan Mortuary.

On 06/28/2017, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, cited Allen M. Edgar 56 YOA of Grayland, WA. who was the skipper/operator of the fishing vessel Rising Sun ADF&G #77246 and a 17 YOA JV who was the permit holder on the vessel for commercial fishing by seine net for salmon in closed area. Both have a mandatory court appearance in the District Court of Ketchikan.
