On 7/25/2017 at 1052 hours, Prince of Wales Troopers and Wildlife Troopers arrested 48 year old Joseph Steel of Ketchikan near Klawock on an outstanding warrant. Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of a concealable firearm and drug paraphernalia in Steels possession. Steel is a convicted felon and is prohibited from owning/possessing firearms. Steel was remanded at the Craig Jail.

On 07/21/2017 Alaska Wildlife Troopers on board the P/V Enforcer inspected eight shrimp pots belonging to Carlyle Preston, age 65 from Naukati. Investigation revealed that Preston failed to have a proper biodegradable escape mechanism in the pots as required. He was issued three $110 citations in the District Court at Prince Of Wales.

On 07/22/2017 Alaska Wildlife Troopers and National Marine Fisheries Service Officers working jointly on board the P/V Enforcer contacted sport fish guide William Miller, age 36 from Idaho. Investigation determined Miller had allowed a client to retain a king salmon without him having a king salmon stamp and allowed another client to retain an over limit of halibut. Miller was issued a $210 citation in the District Court at Petersburg allowing a non-resident client to retain a king salmon without the proper stamp. Additionally he was issued a $400 citation from NMFS for allowing the client to retain an over limit of halibut.

On 07/19/2017 Alaska Wildlife Troopers on board the P/V Enforcer cited Mark Knapp, age 27 of Hydaberg, for failing to possess a sport fishing license. He was issued a $210 citation in the District Court at Craig.

On 7/28/2017 at approximately 1820 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report from two out-of-state fisherman reporting the theft of two firearms stolen from a vehicle in Thorne Bay. The firearms, a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield .40 caliber and a Smith & Wesson .44 Mag model 29 were taken from the unlocked vehicle by unknown person(s). Anyone with information about this theft is strongly encouraged to call Craig AST at 826-2918.
