ROAD WORK NOTICE: The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities has started Thorne Bay Road chip seal road resurfacing to fix cracks and provide a new road surface.
Crews are working on the Thorne Bay Road from the Big Salt Road intersection (Control Lake) to Thorne Bay.
Approximate hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 6AM to 4PM until project completion in late June.
Machinery is on the road, painted center line markings will not be present, and speed and other road conditions will be changing. Please pay close attention to sign and flagger directions for safety.
Gravel could be loose for several weeks after completion. Please drive with caution, especially when meeting oncoming traffic. Loose gravel on the driving surface can fly up and chip windshields.
We thank drivers for their patience as we work to improve the Thorne Bay Road.
Please call Marcus Zimmerman, Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities Maintenance & Operations Specialist, at (907) 465-4655 with questions.
