On 2/11/2017 at about 2215 hours, Prince of Wales based Troopers along with the Hydaburg VPSO, responded to a reported assault in Hydaburg. Investigation revealed Michael Bernhardt, age 33 of Hydaburg had assaulted a 75 year old female family member by repeatedly punching her in the head and face. Bernhardt then left the residence in the victims vehicle prior to the VPSO response. Troopers located Bernhardt near the town of Klawock approximately 40 minutes after the original call. Bernhardt was arrested without incident and remanded to the Craig Jail for assault in the fourth degree, (Domestic Violence) and held pending arraignment.

On 2/16/17, Alaska Wildlife Troopers from Prince of Wales Island cited Derrick McRae, 40, of Gig Harbor, WA for failing to submit a commercial geoduck clam dive log book for the 12/8/16 fishery to ADF&G as required. Arraignment is set for 3/28/17 at the Prince of Wales District Court.

On 02/17/17 at approximately 1430 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales observed a gray Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on the Craig-Klawock Hwy near MP 4. The pickup failed to negotiate a turn and collided with the guardrail causing damage to the vehicle and the guardrail. The driver and sole occupant, identified as Frances Colegrove age 26 of Klawock, was transported by EMS to the Alicia Roberts Medical Clinic in Klawock with possible injuries. Alcohol is believed to be a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
