Infamous Cuban Revolutionary and Dictator of Cuba has finally died at age 90:
Ashen and grave, President [Raul] Castro told the nation in an unexpected late night broadcast on state television that Fidel Castro had died and would be cremated later on Saturday.[Ed: The political life of Fidel Castro happened before my Millennial sensibilities and political awareness and i'm not Cuban so strangely (or perhaps obviously) I have no emotional connection to his regime. Not withstanding, Cubans in Little Havana are partying in the streets, as they should...the Socialist experiment of the Castro's destroyed and uprooted their lives].
"The commander in chief of the Cuban revolution died at 22:29 hours this evening (03:29 GMT Saturday)," he said.
There is to be several days of national mourning on the island.
Raul Castro ended the announcement by shouting the revolutionary slogan: "Towards victory, always!"
Castro was the longest serving non-royal leader of the 20th Century.
He temporarily handed over power to his brother in 2006 as he was recovering from an acute intestinal ailment. Raul Castro officially became president two years later.
