On 3/13/16 at approximately 1605 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island received a report of theft in the community of Hydaburg. The complainant reported that at some point during the past month, an unknown individual had stolen a 10hp Honda power pack valued at approximately $3,000.00 from his storage building. On 3/15/16 at approximately 1205 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island received a report of Criminal Mischief and Reckless Endangerment in the community of Coffman Cove. The complainant reported that at some point approximately two weeks ago, an unknown individual had placed a pair of vice grips on the rear brake line of his Ford Pickup that was parked at the Coffman Cove Harbor. This caused significant impairment to the function of the vehicles braking system, and resulted in damages estimated at $500.00. The investigation is ongoing. On 3/15/16 at approximately 1545 hours, Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales Island conducted a traffic stop on a 1997 Ford truck for a speed violation. Troopers identified the driver of the vehicle as James E. Mason, age 63 of Craig. Investigation revealed that Mason was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Mason was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to the Craig Jail facility where he was remanded and later released on his own recognizance.
