Trooper Dispatch Week of September 14, 2015

Location: Hollis/Prince of Wales Island
Case number: AK15074296
Type: Suspicious Circumstances

Text: On 9/10/15 at approximately 1431 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a call from an Inter-Island Ferry (IFA) Terminal employee in Hollis on Prince of Wales Island who was reporting a possible explosive device in an exterior trash can. The building was evacuated, vehicle and foot traffic was blocked from the area, the IFA ferry was held in Ketchikan, and air traffic was routed away from the building. AST was able to obtain a photo of the device, and after sharing it with explosives experts at the FBI, it was decided that there was a high likelihood that it was real. At about 1800 hours, after obtaining and reviewing surveillance video, AST was able to identify and talk to the person who had put it in the trashcan. The person confirmed that it was a novelty alarm clock that was discarded in the trashcan after it had gotten broken. There appears to have been no malicious intent and no further action is being taken. Author: CJG0 Received Monday, September 14, 2015 2:14 PM and posted Monday, September 14, 2015 2:05 P
